RTA presents ‘X: NO CONTACT WITH THEM/SOME CONTRACTS WITH MYSELF,’ a solo exhibition by Julie Maurin at RTA HQ in London [UK].

7.11.24-7.12.24

'This exhibition comes after a long period of silence - starting from scratch again with art. She’s used to having breaks, trying not to be so caught up and delivering multiple iterations of the same single idea but focusing on evolving. After a while into the break and with lots of sleepless nights, multiple ideas in the form of visions started to appear ~ and since their hopes lay shattered like a mirror on the floor, since they couldn’t - even if they tried, came a sweet Angel holding their hand.

It is with great contradiction that some pure people without commercial sense - those who take the risk of living their raw emotions, good or bad, and experience their intensity vividly - are seen as ill by society, while they know deep down that something very special that belongs to them could be taken away from them at anytime. And it always happen that their uniqueness is categorized, controlled, and inevitably cleared.

« And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music. » But what those people also ignore is that we changed the tune in the meantime. And it doesn’t sound like every single tune, auto tune, zero emotion, muted emotion, computed emotion…pitch corrected…..

This is the result of an experiment - about staying up nights and days for long enough to naturally dissociate, writing an horror book involving animals and weird contracts with the Devil, breaking mirrors and throwing blood, building castles made out of food and trash…An experiment that I didn’t decide to make but that happened to me anyway. An experiment that has been documented the whole time and that was long guarded like the apple of my eye, is here delivered as a contract with myself.

There’s certainly a Devil and he knows my name.'
